Leaked T-Mobile G2 ROM unveils a few new HTC wallpapers

Friday 27 August 2010 @ 9:48 pm

Interested in giving your Android phone a fresh new look? It’s not every day that we share new wallpapers with you guys, but what we have here are no ordinary wallpapers. After the the T-Mobile G2′s ROM got leaked the other day, @zapote21 did some digging around through the system files and came up with with six new wallpapers from HTC. The G2′s ROM did include other images, though @zapore21 has stated that the other images are simply what we have seen before on other HTC Sense handsets.

We’re hoping that a few new wallpapers will be enough to hold everyone over a few more weeks as we wait patiently for the launch of the T-Mobile G2. If the phone does feature the Snapdragon MSM7230 processor with the Adreno 205 GPU, it should be one of the best Android phones to hit the streets this fall.

Images confirm T-Mobile G2 launch date

Friday 27 August 2010 @ 8:39 am

New evidence has just surfaced which confirms the September 29th launch date for the T-Mobile G2. Our good friends over at TmoNews have gotten their hands on images of a T-Mobile training/release calendar which lists the Vanguard as having a 9/29 launch date.  Yes, there has been a little bit of confusion around HTC’s code names for the T-Mobile G2 and the HTC Desire Z, but at this point it’s pretty safe to assume that the G2 will officially launch in a little over a month.

If you are willing to purchase the T-Mobile G2 sight-unseen, rumors are now suggesting that T-Mobile will allow current customers to pre-order the handset within the next week or two.  We’re hoping that final specs for the G2 will be revealed before then so that customers will know exactly what they are buying.  All we need now is a price for the G2 and we’ll be all set.

See what HTC has dreamt up, press event scheduled for September 15

Friday 13 August 2010 @ 9:05 am

If you’re dying to know what HTC has been working on for the past few months, we suggest you mark September 15th on your calendar.  HTC has just send out invitations to the media to a press event they will be hosting on September 15th in London.  As usual, no details about the event have been revealed, but we’re pretty sure that HTC will be showing off at least a few different Android and Windows Phone 7 devices.  The date does fall pretty close to the expected launch of the HTC Vanguard on T-Mobile USA, but HTC typically does not announce U.S. specific devices at their international press events.  That being said, the HTC Vanguard could be launch in both the U.S. and EU just like the HTC Dream.

Other phones we could expect to see unveiled at HTC’s London event include the HTC Ace (Desire HD), HTC Mozart, HTC Vision, HTC Schubert, and the HTC Glacier.  If that list looks a bit long, keep in mind that HTC is expected to unveil 6 new phones and ship over 8 million units in Q4 alone.

New picture of the myTouch HD shows off the phone’s back side

Friday 30 July 2010 @ 11:22 am

Very little is known about the upcoming HTC Vanguard. Some were expecting it the be the G1 Blaze, but now it looks like T-Mobile’s first official phone to support HSDPA+ may be the myTouch (3G) HD. As of now, all we know about the phone is the name and what’s been revealed through the two images of the handset which have leaked this week.

The first image shows off the front of the phone which features a larger, more narrow display than the myTouch 3G Slide. Above the screen, it appears the the myTouch HD will feature a front facing camera which could be used for video calling over HSDPA+. The design elements of the phone are pretty close to those of the myTouch Slide, though the back of the handset looks to have a soft-touch, matte finish along the edge and a silver colored plate in the middle.

We expect the myTouch HD to feature at least a 1GHz processor, 5-8MP camera, Android 2.1 (maybe 2.2 since HTC seems to be rolling out the new update to many of their phones starting this weekend), and the Espresso build of HTC Sense.

Quite a few Android fans have been complaining about the lack of a powerhouse phone on T-Mobile’s network. With the myTouch HD, T-Mobile looks to be stepping up their game to compete with the HTV EVO 4G and the DROID X. Question is, does anyone here really want another myTouch phone?

HTC mytouch HD appears out of nowhere, could be the rumored HTC Vanguard

Wednesday 28 July 2010 @ 8:47 am

For a while, we have been assuming that the upcoming HTC Vanguard and HTC Vision were the same phone.  We’ve seen images of the phone in the wild along with renders.  Unfortunately, a new image that surfaced this morning has seems to contradict what we thought we knew.  Android Central has unveiled an image of a phone which they are calling the myTouch 3G HD.  Before today, there have been absolutely no rumors about this handset, but it would be that the HTC Vanguard and HTC Vision are actually two separate handsets.

Yesterday, T-Mobile launched a teaser site for their first HSDPA+ phone.  While the page itself only revealed a silhouette of a phone, the code had the term “Vanguard” plastered all over it. Less than 24 hours later, any mention of Vanguard has been removed, but the silhouette on the site looks strikingly similar to the new image of the myTouch 3G HD.

At this point, all we can do is speculate.  The leaked shot of the myTouch HD does feature a larger display than the recently released myTouch Slide as well as a front facing camera to the right of the speaker.  For now, that’s all we have, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted if any new information comes to light.

HTC Vision heading to T-Mobile as the G1 Blaze

Monday 26 July 2010 @ 7:58 am

T-Mobile fans who still can’t seem to part with their original G1 may want to start putting aside some extra cash.  We have known about the HTC Vision for quite some time, but some new information gives us a lot more assurance that the phone will be making its way to T-Mobile. A new image has surface on Engadget with T-Mobile branding and a body that matched up pretty likely with other images we have seen.  According the T-Mobile’s leaked roadmap, the HTC Vision will be making its debut on September 9th, though Engadget is claiming that the new handset will actually be named the G1 Blaze when it finally hits store shelves.  Anyone in the market for a new QWERTY equipped Android phone running a 1GHz processor with a 3.7 inch display will most likely find the G1 Blaze to be a suitable option.

Oh, and if anyone was wondering if this phone was coming to T-Mobile U.S.A. ot t-Mobile Europe, we’d like to remind you that the “T” only has one dot in front of it (T-Mobile U.S.A. branding) not three (T-Mobile Europe).

HTC expected to ship 8.5 million phones in Q4 with the help of 6 new handsets

Friday 16 July 2010 @ 8:05 am

Though HTC has been plagued with component shortages for the HTC Desire, EVO 4G, and DROID Incredible over the past few months, HTC is hoping to finish out the year with an incredibly strong fourth quarter.  Industry sources are reporting that HTC is planning to introduce a total of six new handsets in Q4 which will help them boost their sale numbers for the year and ship nearly 8.5 million phone in the fourth quarter alone.

HTC’s new handset lineup will most likely include the HTC Vision, Vanguard, and Emerald running on Android along with the HTC Mondrian, and Mozart which are expected to be running Microsoft’s new Windows Phone 7 platform.  The HTC Ace (HTC Desire HD) isn’t included in the list since it is expected to go on sale some time in Q3.

HTC has already experienced two amazing quarters this year, beating their own and analyst expectations both times.  With six new phones on the horizon, we are hoping that HTC has finally been able to sort out their component supply issues, which could be their only obstacle in reaching their sales target.

Leaked T-Mobile roadmap reveals Android updated and three new phones on the horizon

Thursday 8 July 2010 @ 11:50 am

We typically get treated to an occasional rumor or tip, but it’s not often the we get a sneak peak at a carrier’s 6 month handset roadmap.  Apparently, AndroidSpin has been treated to pictures of a slide which outlines what T-Mobile has in store for the next six months.  HTC and T-Mobile have always had a pretty close relationship, so it’s no surprise that there are a few HTC references in the lineup.

T-Mobile’s roadmap indicates that the myTouch 3G and the Slide will both be getting Android updates over the summer.  Starting in September, HTC will be introducing the HTC Vanguard with the HTC emerald and Schubert to follow in November.

Here’s a quick breakdown of everything included in the roadmap:

  • July: Android 2.2 update for the myTouch 3G Slide
  • August: Android update for the myTouch 3G
  • September: Launch of T-Mobile HTC Vanguard (aka HTC Vision, Android)
  • November: Launch of T-Mobile HTC Emerald (aka “Project Emerald”, Android )
  • November: Launch of HTC Schubert (aka HTC Scorpion, Windows Phone 7 with 1.5 GHz processor)

Quite a few people have been pretty vocal about T-Mobile not getting any of the new higher end smartphones that have been hitting other carriers over the past few months.  Fortunately, T-Mobile and HTC appear to have listened to the complaints of their customers.  We still don’t know many of the details regarding HTC’s upcoming phones, but if the rumors and speculation are true, we’re in for a great treat.
