While this has been rumoured for a while, it looks like the Droid 2 is going to launch on the Verizon network in the US. It’s a bump up from the original Droid, though probably not the dual core update that most of us would expect. It also does not have support for 4G, but [...]

UPDATE: HTC Incredible splash page goes up on Verizon’s website

Wednesday 14 April 2010 @ 8:58 am

If you still had your doubt about the Verizon HTC Incredible, Verizon has just put up their official “coming soon” page for the handset.  It’s a little surprising that they have yet to send out an official press release with the full details of the phone.  Regardless, if you’re planning on purchasing the Verizon HTC Incredible, you may want to head on over to the HTC Incredible page on Verizon’s site and sign up for “pre-ordering” details.   The hope is that Verizon will launch the HTC Incredible by the end of April of the first week in May.

Update: Verizon updated the image on the site to reflect a name change for the phone.  It’s now the Droid Incredible by HTC and will launch April 29th.

Update 2: This page is now password protected.  It appears someone hit the publish button a little early or didn’t realize that they were makign changes to a live page.

Leaked User Guide reveals Verizon HTC Incredible specs

Thursday 8 April 2010 @ 6:43 pm

It’s been a little over 24 hours since we told you that the HTC Incredible will go on sale from Verizon Wireless on April 29th.  Typically, we don’t get news on the same phone two days in a row, but it appears that today is the exception to the rule.  Phandroid has managed to secure a copy of the Verizon HTC Incredible User Guide which finally confirms all the specs that most of us have been speculating about.  Yes, it will have a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 3.7 inch screen, and 8GB of internal storage.  The Verizon HTC Incredible will be the hottest new Android toy on the market (at least here in the U.S.).  As expected, the specs line up pretty nicely with the HTC Desire, though we still can’t explain the odd form factor from the previously leaked shots of the Incredible.

Pricing is still a mystery, but I wouldn’t expect Verizon to charge more than $200 for the HTC Incredible with a new two year agreement.  For a full specs on the Incredible, check out the list below or head on over to Phandroid to take a look at the full User Guide.

  • 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon
  • Android 2.1, Sense UI
  • Camera: 8MP with AF, flash
  • Memory: 576MB RAM/512MB ROM
  • 8GB Internal Storage, expandable via microSD
  • Screen: 3.7-inch AMOLED at 480×800.
  • Dimensions: 4.63×2.30×0.47 inches.
  • Weight: 4.6 ounces with battery.
  • Battery: 1300 mAh
  • aGPS, Digital compass, Proximity Sensor, Light sensor
  • Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
  • 3.5mm headphone jack

Verizon HTC Incredible to launch on April 29th

Wednesday 7 April 2010 @ 2:37 pm

Verizon customers are getting a little impatient these days.  The Nexus One for Verizon is still nowhere to be found and the HTC Incredible (which we first heard of back in February) has not even been announced yet.  We were expecting HTC and Verizon to unveil the phone at last month’s CTIA in Vegas, but apparently Verizon wanted to keep the Android 2.1 phone under wraps.  Luckily, it appears some leaked images from Verizon have pinpointed the Verizon HTC Incredible launch date, April 29th.  Verizon recently made mention to the HTC Incredible on their Twitter account and there are rumors that Verizon warehouses are stocked up and ready to go.   While other carriers like making announcements months before a phone is released (Sprint HTC Evo 4G with its “Summer” launch frame), Verizon is being a lot more subtle about the HTC Incredible.  Though we’re still not sure on all the details, the Verizon HTC Incredible will be the most powerful and feature packed Android phone to be launched by a U.S. carrier.  The Incredible may not have the multi-million dollar marketing campaign of the DROID, but I’m sure Verizon will be rolling out an ad or two to flaunt their new Incredible phone.

Another speak peak at the Verizon HTC Incredible

Thursday 11 March 2010 @ 5:52 pm

Images of HTC handsets have always managed to leak to the public a month or so before showing up in stores.  But is seems things are getting a little out of hand. The upcoming Verizon HTC Incredible has been spotted multiple times in the past few weeks.  We typically get a few blurry shots of the phone, but this time is appears we have a few more details to share.  As you can tell from the pictures, it appears that Verizon and HTC have shied away from the glossy red back cover that’s been spotted on the HTC Incredible in the past.  The new back cover is now a black, soft-touch cover with a Verizon logo in the bottom corner.  The front of the Incredible features four capacitive buttons under the screen and HTC’s new optical joystick that we’ve seen on the Desire and Legend.  Verizon’s Incredible measures in at 117.5 x 58.5 x 11.9mm, making it slightly larger than the Nexus One, but smaller than the HTC Desire.

One of the most exciting features (the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor) of the HTC Incredible may not be as incredible (sorry for the pun) as we all thought.  Reports from Android Forums indicate that the processor has been under clocked to 768MHz.  I’m sure that once the phone is rooted, developers and hackers will have the Snapdragon processor up and running at its proper 1GHz speed, but we’re not sure why Verizon would choose cut the phones processing power by 25%.  The only logical explanation we could come up with is battery conservation.

At this rate, we should be seeing more leaked images and details of the Verizon HTC Incredible by early next week.  If not, I have my money on an official announcement of the Incredible during CTIA in about a week and a half.    Stay tuned.

Verison HTC Incredible spotted in the wild… again

Friday 5 March 2010 @ 11:59 am

I’m sure a few Verizon customers are jsut itching to get their hands on the upcoming Nexus One.  We still don’t know what the launch date will be for the N1, but speculation points to the end of March.  Unfortunately, I’m not usre how many will be willing to drop their money on the Nexus One when the Verizon HTC Incredible is lurking right around the corner.  For all intensive purposes, the HTC Incredible in the same as the HTC Desire (which is essentialt the same as the Nexus One) which was unveiled by HTC last month at Mobile World Congress.  We actually got out first glimpse of the handset a in early February with a few decent pictures and some pretty bad video

The Verizon HTC Incredible features the same 3.7 inch AMOLED display, 1Gz Snapdragon processor, Android 2.1 with HTC Sense, Optical Joystick,  and 5MP camera as the Desire. The only real difference between the two phones is the exterior shell, radio chipsets (CDMA versus GSM), and maybe the allotted internal memory.  The Verizon HTC Incredible release date is still under wraps, but I’d venture to guess we could see it show up in Verizo nstores in late April of early May with a price right around $200 with a new contract.

Though we don’t have the official measurements of the Verizon HTC Incredible, these pictures clearly show that the phone is slightly wider but a lot shorter that the T-Mobile G1.  We’ve definitely come a long way in the past 18 months.
