HTC Dev unlocks bootloaders for seven more HTC phones

Tuesday 17 January 2012 @ 9:43 am
HTC’s official bootloader unlocking tool has just added support for a few new devices. OK, new may not be the right word since the newest device on the list was announced eleven months ago, but we’re glad to see the HTC Dev team working hard to add support to as many phones as possible. The [...]

HTC Droid Incredible, Gingerbread has to wait!

Thursday 18 August 2011 @ 7:20 am
This is a bit of a kick in the guts for Verizon customers who bought the phone in good faith, that they would receive the Gingerbread update eventually. Whatever happened when the initial rollout started, some users had a bad experience, the update has been with held for further testing. As with any OTA update [...]

Verizon leaks the Droid Incredible 2!

Tuesday 12 April 2011 @ 6:46 am
While this has been rumoured for a while, it looks like the Droid 2 is going to launch on the Verizon network in the US. It’s a bump up from the original Droid, though probably not the dual core update that most of us would expect. It also does not have support for 4G, but [...]

HTC DROID Incredible price drop, now only $99 at Verizon

Monday 31 January 2011 @ 9:12 pm
Carrier price drops on HTC phone are a natural part of a handset’s life cycle. It’s typically a sign that sales of that handset have decreased and the service provider simply wants to keep their sales numbers up. But in the case of the HTC DROID Incredible on Verizon, it could mean that a true [...]

Honeycomb SDK extract ported to HTC DROID Incredible

Monday 31 January 2011 @ 9:25 am
Porting Android builds that have been extracted from the SDK is nothing new.  But what happens when you export Android 3.0 (intended to be targeted directly at tablets or handsets with extremely high resolutions) from the SDK and port it to Verizon’s HTC DROID Incredible? Not much at all.  Due to the handset’s screen resolution, [...]

New handset pictures hint at HTC DROID Incredible successor

Thursday 27 January 2011 @ 12:35 pm
When news about the HTC Thunderbolt started surfacing, many speculated that it would be named the DROID Incredible HD.  The name didn’t stick, but that doesn’t mean that HTC and Verizon didn’t have plans to release a second DROID Incredible.  New images have shown up which give us a pretty clear picture of what the [...]

A stable build of Android 2.3 gets ported to the DROID Incredible

Tuesday 21 December 2010 @ 9:58 am
If you’ve been keeping an eye on the Android development community over the past few weeks, you may have noticed that Gingerbread builds for nearly all of HTC’s Android (and even some Windows Mobile) devices have been popping up.  While it’s nice to see the development community move so fast, we have ignored most of [...]

HTC confirms Android 2.3 will be coming to “some phones”

Wednesday 8 December 2010 @ 6:41 am
When it comes to rolling out Android updates, HTC certainly has a better track record than most other manufacturers out there. Over the past year, we’ve seen HTC push out Android 2.1 to the majority of their first generation Android handsets and the majority of their second generation of Android phones have been updated to [...]

Friday 19 November 2010 @ 9:14 am
HTC has always been pretty good at releasing their source code for their Android phones in a timely fashion, so it’s nice to see them continue the trend by releasing the source code for the myTouch 4G, and the latest updates for the DROID Incredible and the T-Mobile G2.  We know developers have already pulled [...]

HTC releases new source code forthe G2, Desire Z, and DROID Incredible

Tuesday 2 November 2010 @ 9:04 am
The HTC Developer Center has just lit up with new source code for the HTC Desire Z, T-Mobile G2, and DROID Incredible.  All three new files are under 1MB in size, but they should give developers some additional insight into the inner workings of the three handsets. We’re not exactly sure what goodies developers might [...]

Verizon kicks off Android 2.2 rollout for the HTC DROID Incredible

Friday 27 August 2010 @ 10:42 am

Verizon has started pushing out the Android 2.2 update for the DROID Incredible, making it the second HTC handset in the U.S. to reveive the new update.   The new Froyo update will include Adobe Flash Player 10.1, 720p video recording, 801.11n Wi-Fi, 270 degree screen rotation, 3G Mobile Hotspot, batter improvements, and some new and improved email and sms widgets for HTC Sense.   We still have not received any confirmations from any of our readers that the Android 2.2 has hit their handsets yet, but we’re pretty sure they should start rolling in any minute now.

Typical OTA updates take a week or two to hit every single device, but if you’re not willing to wait that long, keep in mind there are a few tricks to get your update a little sooner.  Our favorite one is to simply change the date on your handset.  Manually bumping up your handset’s date by a week or two should automatically trigger the update.

For more details about the Froyo update for the HTC DROID Incredible, Verizon has put together a list of benefits and installation instructions.  Let us know how things go. With Froyo installed, the DROID Incredible should be a little more… incredible.  Sorry, we just couldn’t resist.

Four out of the top five best selling Android phones in Q2 are made by HTC

Wednesday 4 August 2010 @ 11:41 am

The latest report from NPD has just unveiled that Android has reached the number one spot as the best selling smartphone OS in America.  RIM’s Blackberry phones have been at the top since late 2007, but it looks like Android will be holing the top honor for quite some time.  Android finished off the quarter with 33% while RIM dropped to 28% and Apple gained a little, moving up to 22%.

While the numbers are pretty impressive, we’re a little more excited to announce that the top five list of best selling Android phones for Q2 in the U.S. market included the HTC DROID Incredible, HTC EVO 4G, HTC Hero, and HTC DROID Eris.  HTC was not able to bump the Motorola DROID from the number one spot, but I’m pretty sure they are happy to have secured the other four.

We are pretty confident that HTC will continue to lead the way on the Android front over the next few quarters.  The HTC Hero will most likely be faded out over the next few months just as the DROID Eris recently pulled off a silent disappearing act a few weeks back.  With 3-4 new Android phones from HTC expected to hit between now and the end of the year, HTC should have no problem staying at the top of the list, helping Android increase its market share lead over the competition.

HTC DROID Incredible gets served up with a side of root

Thursday 10 June 2010 @ 9:44 am

Looking for something fun to do with your shiny DROID incredible by HTC?  It looks like our good friends over at XDA-Developers have finally been able to crack the Incredible and gain root access.  I know, you’ve been asking for root for a long time now, but the Incredible put up a great fight.  Most other Android phones from HTC give up after a few weeks, but the Incredible stood firm for just over six weeks.  I wouldn’t recommend jumping on the root bandwagon just yet.  The hack is pretty cumbersome at the moment, but there should be a much easier workaround for root on the Incredible in the coming week.  For now, let’s have the ROM cooks get their chef hats on so they can get things all prepped for us and maybe cook up a pre-release Froyo treat.
