T-Mobile myTouch 3G Fender Limited Edition landing January 20

Thursday 14 January 2010 @ 7:41 am
T-mobile is finally ready to launch the myTouch 3G Fender Limited Edition. The handset is scheduled to launch on January 20th for $179.99 with a new two year agreement. From what we can tell, hardware is pretty much the same as the original, but the fender Limited Edition does feature a 3.5mm headphone jack to make music that much more enjoyable, 288MB of RAM and will be sporting a Fender branded shell. To make sure your music experience is up to snuff with other smartphones on the market, the myTouch 3G Fender Limited edition has a new customized music player created by HTC, a 16GB microSD card for all your music, and preloaded music from Eric Clapton, Wyclef Jean, Avril Lavigne and Brad Paisley. T-Mobile is also throwing in a customized version of the DoubleTwist music syncing computer application so that you can easily sync up all your tunes and even transfer in your iTunes playlists. The January 20th launch of the T-Mobile myTouch 3G Fender Limited Edition will be accompanied by a new commercial featuring Eric Clapton. It's nothing revolutionary and does nothing to call out the differences between the original and the Fender Limited Edition, but at least it's nice to see T-Mobile still backing the myTouch line.

Android 2.0 making its way to HTC Magic in the Spring [Rumor]

Tuesday 5 January 2010 @ 1:27 am
If you’re the proud owner of HTC’s first generation of Android handsets (HTC Dream and the HTC Magic), you might be asking yourself when your phone will be getting the latest Android update. HTC rolled out an Android 1.6 update last fall, but Motorola’s DROID is running Android 2.0.1 and the Nexus One (which should launch TODAY) is running Android 2.1. So where does that leave those who bought into the Android platform early on? HTC, T-Mobile, and even Google have been silent over the matter. HTC has promised support for Android 2.0 for the HTC Hero and we’ve even seen some of the leaked ROMs already, but there has been no news on the Magic front. But now, Austria’s A1 has confirmed that they are planning on upgrading their HTC Magic to Android 2.0 this spring. OK, I just got off the phone with the tech support people from my carrier (A1). They told me that it is GUARANTEED that the HTC Magic will be getting 2.0 and it will be pushed over the air to users on their network between March and April. Android 2.1 is ALSO guaranteed to be coming to the Magic on their network, but they do not have a fix date on that release – yet. I can’t vouch for the guy who gave this information, but I can say that Andrew from Androinica wouldn’t pass it on if there was a credibility issue. Since the HTC Magic is essentially an HTC Hero with a different body, I see no reason why the handset wouldn’t get Android 2.0 when the Hero would. I’ll be meeting up with the HTC team at CES tomorrow, so I’ll be sure to bring this up to see if they have an official answer for us. T-Mobile slashes price of myTouch 3G, now only $99

Friday 18 December 2009 @ 4:50 am
Retailers know that the last weekend before Christmas is the second business shopping weekend of the year. In order to make a few extra sales before the holidays, T-mobile has just slashed the price of the myTouch 3G from $149 to only $99. This makes the myTouch 3G the cheapest Android handset on T-Mobile and matches the price of the Verizon DROID Eris. If you match up the specs of the Eris and the myTouch, things are pretty even. However, the DROID Eris does offer HTC Sense and will be getting an upgrade to android 2.1 in Q1 of 2010. I've never been a fan of jumping ship just to get a good deal on a new phone. So if you're already on T-Mobile, the myTouch should be your best bet for an Android handset. UPDATE: We were just informed that the $99 price will only be available for this weekend! If you're thinking about getting this handset you better make up your mind real quick! Source: T-Mobile (http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones/Cell-Phone-Detail.aspx?cell-phone=MyTouch-3G-White)

Rooted, unlocked HTC Magic named as new Google ADP2

Monday 16 November 2009 @ 8:45 am
A few of you might recall that Google release the HTC Dream as the ADP1 quite a while back. It's been more than a year since Android hit the streets, so it's only appropriate that Google put out a new phone to take advantage of all the cool new things that the Android 2.0 platform has to offer. Or note. Google has just release the new ADP2, the Google ION, or the same old HTC Magic we have all had for months already. Don't get me wrong, the Magic is an incredible handset. The problem is that the hardware is a bit dated and Google didn't even try to load on Android 2.0 on to it. Instead, the ADP2 will be shipping with Android 1.6 which should hold developers over for about a minute or so. Fortunately, anyone can purchase the ADP2 which is selling for $399.99. If you're in the market for a new Android phone to play around with, the ADP2 might be a smart choice since it is carrier unlocked and has root access. The $399.99 price tag matched what you'd pay at T-Mobile for a new myTouch 3G if you chose not to sign a new contract. Not a bad deal at all. Plus, your ADP2 would standout a little more in a crowd since you'll most likely be the only one with a black and blue HTC Magic in your hand.
