Flurry reports Nexus One sells only 20,000 units in first week

Thursday 14 January 2010 @ 2:36 am
It's been a little over a week that the HTC made Nexus One has been on sale through Google's website. It's the first handset which can be purchased exclusively from Google and will not be showing up at retail at all. Flurry has just released their first week sales estimates for the Nexus One and things arn't looking so good. According to Flurry's numbers, Google only sold around 20,000 Nexus One handsets last week, When you compare those numbers to the iPhone 3GS, DROID, or even the myTouch 3G, the Nexus One looks to be a complete flop. But the Nexus One's sales numbers can't really be compared to its competition. Google has chosen to break from the traditional distribution style, only offering the Nexus One online. The majority of consumers are user to walking into their local carrier store or big box retailer when looking for a new handset. Simply having a phone on a store shelf or on display is like rolling out a marketing campaign. Yes, Google has taken over the internet, pushing the Nexus One through Adsense on millions on websites, but that's simply not enough. If Google really want to change the way people buy phones, they'll need to do a little more mainstream (TV, print, radio) promotion for the Nexus One.

HTC Nexus One pictures and specs

Tuesday 5 January 2010 @ 7:01 am
The Google Nexus One press event just wrapped up a few minutes ago, so we thought you might want to take a closer look at the handset and a full spec sheet from HTC. As you know, the main highlights of the Nexus One are the 3.7-inch AMOLED with 480x800 WVGA resolution screen, Qualcomm® QSD8250™, 1 GHz processor, 512 MB of ROM and RAM, all within a shell that measure 119 x 59.8 x 11.5 mm and weighs 130 grams. You can purchase the Nexus One right now from Google's website for $179 with a new T-Mobile contract or $529 on its own.

France to get the Nexus One for €450

Tuesday 5 January 2010 @ 4:52 am
The Nexus One countdown is in full swing, but we just got word France and other European countries will be getting their hands on the Nexus One in several weeks for €450. Vodafone is offering to know that price down to €200 if you're willing to sign a new contract with them. This news is coming out from the French site La Reve (http://translate.google.com/translate?js=y prev=_t hl=en ie=UTF-8 layout=1 eotf=1 u=http://www.lepoint.fr/technologies/2010-01-04/test-regardez-ce-qu-apporte-vraiment-le-nexus-one-de-google/2102/0/410425 sl=auto tl=en), but I'm sure we will know a lot more by the end of the day (or within an hour or so).

Nexus One T-Mobile rate plan Q&A

Tuesday 5 January 2010 @ 4:33 am
Many are wondering what the deal is with the Nexus On rate plan on T-Mobile. The leaked images we've seen indicate that the only rate plan available witht he Nexus One is the $39.99 Even More +Text +Web = $79.99. Now, a new T-Mobile Q A has surfaced which gives a little more insight. The $39.99 Even More +Text +Web = $79.99 is simply the base rate. Customers can shoose to upgrade to other Even More rate plans. Unfortunately, the Q A confirms that customers who have lines on family plans will not be eligible for the discounted handset price and will need to pay the full $529 is they want a new Nexuc One.

Nexus One Press Event Coverage

Tuesday 5 January 2010 @ 4:20 am
Today, Google will be unveiling the HTC made Nexus One. It will be the first Android 2.1 handset on the market as well as the first phone which will be sold directly from Google. At this point, we know that the Nexus one will be priced at $179.99 with a new T-Mobile contract or $529.99 if you choose to buy the phone on its own. Nexus One details: price, specs, press event, accessories We’re still not sure if the Nexus One is actually going on sale today or if Google will simply be offering a pre-sale of the handset. Fortunately, all our questions should be answered within the next few hours. Google’s Nexus One “Android press gathering” is scheduled to start at 10:00 am PST. We’ll be keeping you updated with all the news on the Nexus One as it rolls in. Stay tuned.

Unlocked Nexus One price set at $530, T-Mobile contract reduces price to $180

Wednesday 30 December 2009 @ 1:45 am
Even since we first started hearing rumors about a Google phone, the main question on everyone’s mind was about the price of the handset. Google’s Nexus One press event is not only six days away, but that hasn’t stopped people from leaking more details. The Nexus One will sell for $530 without any contract obligations. However, if you’re willing to sign your life away to another two year contract from T-Mobile you can save yourself nearly 70% of the cost and pay only $179.99. There are few issues we see with the rate plan structures that are being offered: Only one rate plan is available for the Nexus One (39.99 Even More + Text + Web for $79.99) Exicsint T-Mobile customers will need to “upgrade” to the new Nexus One plan Family plans, Flexpay, SmartAccess and KidConnect customers are not eligible for subsidized pricing There also appears to be some limitations on how many handsets can be ordered at a time and Google appears to be limiting shipment of the Nexus One to only U.S. customers. I’m not convinced that this leaked information from Gizmodo is 100% accurate. For now it’s all we have to go on.

Press event for Google’s Nexus One scheduled for January 5th

Tuesday 29 December 2009 @ 5:44 am
In my last post, I predicted that we might hear something from HTC or Google by the end of the week regarding the Nexus One. I guess I was off by a few days. I opened up my email a few minutes ago to find the image above. Google has just sent out invitations to members of the press for an Android press gathering which is scheduled for one week from today. The January 5th press event is scheduled to start at 10 am Pacific. The invitation may not say anything about the Nexus One, but the schedule of events clearly indicates that the press will have at least 30 minutes of questions, followed by an hour and a half of demonstration time. It's a bit odd that Google has chosen to launch the Nexus One the day before CES. It would make sense to have a proper launch of their latest and greatest android phone when all the press from around the globe is gathered at one location. However, launching before CES allows Google to steal the spotlight away from the show before it begins. They won't have any competition or other major announcements to deal with. Is it just me, or is the excitement growing? I'm not planning on purchasing a Nexus One. I'm patiently holding off for the HTC Bravo, but that could all change once I get some hands-on time with Google's new Android beast.

T-Mobile systems confirm imminent launch of Google’s Nexus One

Tuesday 29 December 2009 @ 3:50 am
This morning, TmoNews has gotten word from their sources that T-Mobile will officially support the HTC Nexus One. T-Mobile's internal system indicated that the carrier will be launching a new Android device in early January. HTC and Google will be handling troubleshooting and exchanges for the device while T-Mobile will be offering support for billing and rate plans. TmoNews later updated their post with new information: Our sources are confirming a January 5th date, 9am, ordering through Google ONLY. Sadly, still no word on pricing. At this point I'm sure that everyone can agree that the Nexus One will be launching in one week from today. Sadly, Google and HTC has stayed pretty quiet on the whole matter. I'd expect Google or HTC to speak up before the end of the week to reveal their launch plans for the Nexus One. Nexus One dock clears FCC, could support wireless Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR docking

Monday 28 December 2009 @ 2:40 am
As expected, news of the Nexus One keeps rolling in. This time around, the FCC has cleared the Nexus One desktop dock. The CR B410 will feature Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, AC adaptor, and an AV connection for those who want to connect their Nexus One to their TV or entertainment center. We’re not exactly sure why Google or HTC included Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR support into the dock since the Nexus One already supports the same functionality. It could be that the Nexus One will be able to connect to the dock through Bluetooth without having to actually place it on the dock. This would allow you to play your phone’s music through your entertainment system while you use your Nexus One to surf the web or chat with your friends.

Nexus One invite-only launch on January 5th, full spec sheet leak

Wednesday 23 December 2009 @ 3:58 am
It’s no secret that the Nexus One is probably the most talked about phone over the past week and a half. The Android powered handset has been talked about on CNN, Fox News, the BBC, and every single tech blog on the net. Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/23/exclusive-nexus-one-full-specs-detailed-invite-only-retail-sal/) has gotten word that the Nexus One will go on sale starting January 5th, but you’ll be lucky if you’ll be able to get your hands on one. The source claims that the Nexus One will only be available via “invitation” at launch, but will eventually roll out to T-Mobile for wider distribution. At this time, there’s no indication as to who will be getting the “invitation” from Google to purchase the Nexus One. It’s not farfetched to think that registered app developers might be included on the invitation list, but I’m sure that Google will be placing the phone into the hands of select members of the media/press as well. Along with the launch details, a detailed spec sheet on the Nexus One has also surfaced.

First look at the new Android 2.1 UI

Tuesday 15 December 2009 @ 4:10 am
Late yesterday, a ROM dump of the HTC Nexus One made its way onto the web. We’ve seen a few pictures of the phone itself, but now we have a little peak of what the UI will look like on the new Android 2.1 build. If you’re thinking that things would be pretty much the same as Android 2.0, you’ll be surprised to know that you are sadly mistaken. Apparently Android 2.0 was destined only for the Motorola DROID and did not include a lot of the enhancements that Google has saved for 2.1 phones.

Nexus One will launch January 5th for $199

Monday 14 December 2009 @ 8:37 am
The HTC made Nexus One Google Phone will go on sale through Google website starting January 5th. Sources have informed ABC news that Google will partner with T-Mobile and offer the Nexus One at a subsidized rate for those who sign up for a new two year agreement. The subsidized price of the Nexus One will be $199.99 but we still do not know how much Google will be selling the Google Phone for to those who do not want to sign up for a new T-Mobile account. Speculation indicates that T-Mobile will use the new Android powered Nexus One to promote the launch of their HSPA 7.2 network which will go live before the end of the year. I've added the January 5th launch date to the Android Events Calendar (http://htcsource.com/index.php?option=com_gcalendar Itemid=77), so make sure you add it to your Google calendar! Google Phone support page unearthed

Monday 14 December 2009 @ 6:52 am
If you've had an itch for more Nexus One of Google Phone news, you've come to the right spot. Engadget mentioned that the Google Phone's support page was found at google.com/phone/support, but unfortunately the link has not gone LIVE yet. After doing some digging and word swapping, an AndroidGuys tipster was able to locate another page in the Google Support section that have a few mentions of Android and phone on it. The page doesn't show much (it probably shouldn't even be live) but the code does reveal that there are links to the Android website and the Android logo. This page could be mean nothing at all, but everything is pointing towards the Google phone, Nexus One. Scott from AndroidGuys also notes the comment about Help with other Products but that note is simply a link back to Google main support page. Nexus One (Google Phone) news recap – now with FCC approval

Monday 14 December 2009 @ 3:59 am
It used to be that HTC and Android news was pretty slow over the weekend. I could easily not turn my computer on for two days and things would almost be the same come Monday mornings. Last weekend we got our first glimpse of HTC’s lineup for the first six months of 2010. This weekend we got the Google Phone! Details after the jump!

HTC made “Google Phone” handed out to Google employees for testing

Sunday 13 December 2009 @ 12:34 am
I'll have to admit that I have never been a firm believer in the Google phone. We've talked about it quite a bit on the weekly AndroidGuys Podcast and I've always stated that it would be a bad decision plan for Google. I guess Google has chosen not to listen to me and instead has chosen to not only make a Google phone but is now handing it over to their employees for an extensive dogfooding testing process. At Google, we are constantly experimenting with new products and technologies, and often ask employees to test these products for quick feedback and suggestions for improvements in a process we call dogfooding (from “eating your own dogfood”). Well this holiday season, we are taking dogfooding to a new level. We recently came up with the concept of a mobile lab, which is a device that combines innovative hardware from a partner with software that runs on Android to experiment with new mobile features and capabilities, and we shared this device with Google employees across the globe. This means they get to test out a new technology and help improve it. Unfortunately, because dogfooding is a process exclusively for Google employees, we cannot share specific product details. We hope to share more after our dogfood diet. - Mario Queiroz, Vice President, Product Management And now we have out first hand's on picture and comments about the new phone from @CoryOBrien (http://twitter.com/CoryOBrien) on Twitter Google Phone = iPhone + a little extra screen and a scroll wheel. Great touch screen, and Android.
